The remaining two days of the Irish Hot Air Ballooning Championships in North Roscommon are unlikely to proceed because of unfavourable weather conditions.

This morning’s (Thursday) scheduled launch from Lough Key Forest and Activity Park was cancelled, and, according to the venue, this evening’s and Friday’s launches are “highly unlikely” due to forecasted winds.

The championships have attracted huge attention since Monday, bringing a kaleidoscope of colour to the skies and beautiful countryside across North Roscommon and South Sligo.

While an official decision has yet to be made by organisers, Lough Key Forest and Activity Park — in a post on social media — warned people not to travel expecting a launch either on Thursday evening or Friday.

“We truly appreciate your support and understanding — and we hope that during this special week, new memories have been made and old ones relived,” said Lough Key Forest and Activity Park.
