Cloonfad village has been the scene of several road traffic accidents in recent years.
Renewed calls have been made to install safety measures in Cloonfad village following another recent road traffic collision.
On Friday evening, March 6th, gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a two car road accident at the village crossroads.
The driver of one of the vehicles was brought to Mayo University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Local Fianna Fáil Councillor Paschal Fitzmaurice has repeatedly called for pedestrian lights and speed reduction ramps to be installed in the village given the high incidence of accidents which have taken place there.
At a recent meeting of the Roscommon Municipal District, Cllr Fitzmaurice, who is also the MD chairperson, said that he and Independent councillor Nigel Dineen have consistently called for safety measures to be installed.
“We are relying on TII for that funding and we need something done soon as it is a very serious situation,” said Cllr Fitzmaurice.
Cllr Dineen said that the Cloonfad junction “was on the radar” for works needed.
