Roadstone has secured a €2.1 million contract to upgrade a 5.2km stretch of the N61 between Fourmilehouse and Clashaganny.
The contract was recently awarded by Roscommon County Council following an open tender competition, which attracted four bids.
The scheme will see the rehabilitation and resurfacing of the national secondary route, along with drainage improvements, road marking upgrades and pavement reconstruction works.
The works involve the rehabilitation of approximately 5.26 kilometres of road, stretching from north of Fourmilehouse towards Clashaganny and crossing a number of Roscommon townlands, including Carrownalasson, Casheltauna, Grange, Ballyglass, Cloonyogan, Rathmore and Clashaganny.
The project is aimed at improving road conditions on one of the county’s busiest routes, which carries around 6,000 vehicles daily.
The contract value is just under €2.1m excluding VAT and is expected to run over a one-year period.
