A young Roscommon boy will lead out his premier league heroes tonight as a mascot for Liverpool FC.

Harry Fleming, aged 10 and from Castlerea, has been selected as a mascot for the Premier League Champions match against Brighton and Hove Albion tonight.

Harry will receive a complimentary Liverpool kit to wear for the game while his family will head to the Amex Stadium on May 19th to watch Harry walk out on to the pitch with his heroes.

His mother Lisa Lyons told the Roscommon Herald last month that Harry was both shocked and delighted after hearing the news.

“We got the email yesterday from the Liverpool members club telling us how he was randomly picked to be a mascot for the game. There are millions of Liverpool fans all over the world so this is like winning the lotto.

“I have never heard of it happening to somebody local so you are sceptical at first but we are delighted. Harry couldn’t talk when we told him. He was in shock.” Harry’s favourite player is Mo Salah, who is on track to finish as the top goal scorer in the premier league this season.

The 10 year old is also delighted that he will be near Liverpool captain Virgil Van Dijk.

Harry has watched Liverpool play before as for his birthday last year, he did a tour of Anfield before watching his beloved team beat Sparta Prague in the Europa League.

Although Harry doesn’t know which Liverpool player he will walk out alongside, Lisa states this is a dream come true for her, her husband Tom, their daughter Holly and of course Harry.

“My husband is a staunch Liverpool fan. Harry’s uncle is also a big Liverpool supporter, so this is great for all our family. Mo Salah is his favourite player, but he would be happy to walk out alongside any player.

“Until the day comes I don’t think it will fully sink in. The fact that he is getting to go on to the pitch alongside the players who he watches all the time is special.”

The match will kick off tonight at 8pm and can be viewed on Sky.
