Roscommon brother and sister celebrate diamond jubilees in County Roscommmon

The Walsh family from Kye, Elphin, with friends and neighbours, recently celebrated the diamond jubilees of brother and sister, Rev. Steve and Sr. Mary Walsh.

The Creeve community joined them for a special Mass in the local church, the very same church they attended regularly during their younger years, with their parents, Paddy and Kitty Walsh and their siblings.

Mass was followed by refreshments in Creeve Community Centre, formerly Drummullin National School, where they began their formal education.

Rev. Steve joined the Holy Ghost Order and was ordained on July 3rd, 1966, and Sr. Mary joined the Mercy Order, Sligo and was professed on August 24th of the same year.

Rev. Steve taught in St. Mary’s Rathmines, Dublin, before going to Kenya in December 1969, where he spent over 25 years working on the missions.

Sr. Mary also spent four years working in Rwanda, after the 1994 genocide.

They are both wished every health and happiness as they both continue to work with the community in Sligo.
