Roscommon resident charged with assault of elderly woman in nursing home

A man appeared at Athlone District Court this morning, Wednesday, charged with the assault of an elderly woman in a nursing home on Monday night.
Peter Keaney (54), of 7 Hillside Close, Monksland, Athlone, Co Roscommon, was arrested at the scene of the alleged assault on Monday and appeared this morning, Wednesday, before Judge Bernadette Owens.
Mr Keaney is charged with a Section 3 assault causing harm to a woman in her 80s after allegedly entering the residential home on Monday night.
Gardaí indicated there would be an objection to bail.
The man was remanded in custody for one week and will reappear at Athlone District Court on May 8, when a bail application is expected to be made.
Judge Owens also directed that a psychiatric assessment and report be carried out.
