Sadness as County Roscommon fashion designer passes away
The late Catriona Hanly. She was widely regarded in the fashion world with her designs being worn by celebrities.
The death occurred earlier today, Saturday of well-known fashion designer and County Roscommon native Catriona Hanly.
Her family said that it was “with great sadness” that they announced the passing of Catriona of Parkowen, Strokestown and Dublin.
Lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her heartbroken family. Beloved daughter of Bertie and Imelda, cherished sister of Alan, Marcus, Enda and Tara, sisters-in-law, Olga, Linda and Sinead, brother-in-law, Neil. Fondly remembered by her nieces, nephews, aunts, uncle, cousins, relatives, neighbours, and a wide circle of friends in Ireland and around the world. Funeral arrangements later.
Catriona was well-known not only for her designs and creativity, but also her generosity when it came to charity.
She studied fashion design at the prestigious St Martin’s College in London. Her pieces encapsulated vibrant colours enriched with feminine detailing.
“For me it all begins with quality and fabrics, which is predominantly the most important element of my clothing. We go through different seasons all year, so why not go through fashion as effortlessly and elegantly,” the Strokestown woman previously told the Roscommon Herald.
She was widely regarded in the fashion world with her designs being worn by celebrities in Ireland and abroad.
“Italy has always been a country close to my heart. It’s a wonderland of gorgeous colours and styles that never dull with the ever-changing seasons.
“However, the Irish seasons always seemed more enchanting to me, and I hoped to incorporate this into my work,” she previously explained.
