The death on Friday last at Galway Hospice of Imelda Filan, Tubbermakee, Ballintubber, and Castleplunkett has caused deep sadness in the community and among her heartbroken family and friends.

The young County Roscommon mother had worked for some time at the Kelly Henry Medical Centre in Castlerea where she was well known and dedicated to her job.

Imelda has been described as a true lady who was always willing to help out and who was the kindest and most caring person who could not do enough for anyone who crossed her path.

Described as “a true gem”, she had a unique wit which made meeting her and chatting with her truly enjoyable and uplifting.

She is survived by her partner, Kevin Farrell; daughters, Jessica and Leah; her parents, Padraig and Nora; her siblings, John (Toberelva), Margaret (New Zealand), Elaine (Dublin) and Patrick (Castleplunkett); her partner's mother, Anne; aunts, uncles, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and many good friends.
