Sales of electric cars more than doubles in county

Sales of electric cars in County Roscommon have more than doubled, according to the latest figures from the SIMI.

To date in 2026 there have been 249 electric car registrations as compared to 94 for 2025.

The percentage share for electric cars increased from 0.51 in 2025 to 0.83 in 2026. This is a 164.89% change in the past year for electric car registrations in the county. 

There was a 11.04% change in the new car registrations in Roscommon for 2026. To date in 2026 there have been 1076 new car registrations a small increase from 969 in 2025. The percentage shares increased from 0.89 to 0.94%.

In the new car market share by engine type, battery electric cars achieved the lead market position for the first time this year with 26.12%, followed by hybrid (Petrol Electric) 24.59%, petrol 20.39%, plug-in hybrid 14.45%, and diesel 12.45%.
