Second deputy principal appointed at County Roscommon secondary school
Georgina Martin has been appointed deputy principal at Roscommon Community College.
The appointment of a second deputy principal at Roscommon Community College has been announced.
Georgina Martin, a member of the school community, now joins Dr Jude Lohan, deputy principal, and Ms Georgina Keena-McNulty, principal, as part of the school’s senior management team.
“The appointment of a second deputy principal reflects the continued growth and development of Roscommon Community College and the exceptional standard of teaching and learning,” said the school management.
Having graduated from Trinity College with a degree in Mathematics, alongside a degree in Theology and Psychology, Ms Martin began her career in the early 2000s, before joining Roscommon Community College in 2012.
She led the mathematics department and numeracy strategy, and developed strong parental initiatives, including evening programmes to support learning at home. Her work in numeracy also extended to feeder primary schools and the DEIS Excellence Programme with St. Coman’s Wood Primary School, where her guidance enabled Transition Year students visit primary schools to promote mathematics.
She has played a key role in student support, serving as year head to several groups throughout her established career. Central to her approach has been ensuring that student wellbeing is supported and reflective of the school ethos.
Ms Martin also brings leadership experience as acting deputy principal, where she led whole- school leadership including health and safety, mathematics and numeracy development.
Speaking about her appointment, Ms Martin said, “Having spent much of my teaching career at RCC, I am now honoured to take on the role of deputy principal. I look forward to continuing to serve our community while supporting excellence in teaching and learning and striving towards student success.”
Congratulating Ms Martin on her appointment, principal Ms Keena-Mc Nulty stated, “We have a valued member of our school who has now taken up the position of deputy principal, having invested much of her career in the development of the school. As principal, I wish Ms Martin every success, and I know she will continue to contribute to the life of this vibrant school community.”
Fellow deputy principal, Dr Jude Lohan, also commented, “With her considerable experience and expertise in education, I am confident that Ms Martin will undoubtedly complement our senior management team. I look forward to working together as we embark on this new chapter at Roscommon Community College.”
