'Significant burst' severely disrupts water supply in West Roscommon
Crews are working to resolve the issue with the water supply in the Cloonfad area.
A "significant burst" in the Cloonfad area has severely disrupted supplies to homes, farms and businesses across the area leading Uisce Éireann to bring in a water tanker and bottled water for people impacted.
Uisce Éireann said this afternoon that crews have been working continuously to restore stable supplies across the network. "However, exceptionally high demand on the system is making it difficult to release airlocks that have formed within the network, resulting in ongoing supply issues for some customers," the company said.
"To help restore supply, crews are continually adjusting network pressures across the supply zone in an effort to move water through the network and return water to affected customers. While these measures are assisting customers in many locations, it is proving particularly challenging to restore consistent supply to customers in higher-lying areas," the company added.
Alternative water supplies are available for customers impacted by the disruption, with bottled water and a water tanker in place close to the Westview Estate in Cloonfad.
Uisce Éireann's Ger Greally acknowledged the ongoing difficulties being experienced by customers and assured the community that every effort is being made to restore normal supply. "Our teams have been working tirelessly since this incident occurred, and we understand the and inconvenience being experienced by customers. While the burst has been repaired, the combination of exceptionally high demand and a number of airlocks on the network is continuing to create challenges in some parts of the supply area. We are adjusting pressures across the network and doing everything possible to move water through the system and restore supplies to all affected customers.
"Unfortunately, customers in higher-lying areas are proving the most difficult to reach, but crews remain on the ground and will continue working until supplies are fully restored," he said.
