Stray cat brings success for County Roscommon company

A stray cat has proven a winner for Boyle based Studio Meala.
RTÉ has launched a series of animated shorts on the theme of home with one of the shorts coming from a County Roscommon company.
RTÉ's Home’s initiative aimed at enriching animation content for young viewers is now available to watch on RTÉ Player. Six new and stand-alone animated shorts from six different Irish animation companies explore different interpretations of home.
One of the shorts comes from Boyle based Studio Meala, 'Saving Chops’.
In 'Saving Chops' a rambunctious stray cat desperately searches for a place to call home, risking life and limb (literally) before, finally, a home finds her instead.
Saving Chops is directed by Cora McKenna, an Irish animator, director and filmmaker originally from Castlecomer, County Kilkenny. After graduating from The Animation Workshop in Denmark in 2020, her graduate film Shergar went on to gain numerous awards and nominations, from the Dingle Animation Film Festival in Ireland to Student BAFTAs in LA. Since then, Cora has worked on productions such as Cartoon Saloon's Wolfwalkers and Adult Swim's Primal. In 2022, Cora joined the Boyle based Studio Meala as a director, and is currently directing the company’s new series Doodle Girl as well as several other upcoming projects.
