Tánaiste to visit Lough Funshinagh today as flooding concerns continue

Tánaiste Michéal Martin is to visit Lough Funshinagh and flood affected areas in South Roscommon later today.
He will discuss the crisis with local residents and public representatives.
Some residents who have recently returned to their homes after being forced to evacuate due to rising waters are disappointed that a permanent solution to the flooding will not be in place in 2024.
Following a visit to the county, OPW Minister Kieran O’Donnell revealed that a solution would not be found this year.
Local Independent councillor Laurence Fallon warned that a meter of water has to be removed from Lough Funshinagh before next winter if homes are to be saved from flooding.
On Sunday, Taoiseach Simon Harris made a private visit to the area and met members of the local community.
