Teenager dies in lake tragedy

A 15-year-old boy has died after getting into difficulty on Lough Ree on Saturday evening.

The incident occurred off Carnakilla Point, Glasson, County Westmeath. Gardaí and emergency services responded shortly after 7.30 p.m..

The teenager was recovered from the water following a search operation and was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was removed to the mortuary at the Regional Hospital Mullingar where a post-mortem will take place.
