Tess McDermott (9) recording for the Tesco Christmas radio advert.
A nine-year-old Monasteraden girl is being heard across the airwaves this Christmas.
Tess McDermott was successful in becoming the voice for a Tesco Christmas radio advert.
From Monasteraden, the St. Aiden’s NS student got the opportunity through Thomas Spratt's DAS (Dance, Act, Sing) Academy in Boyle.
Mr Spratt, a professional choreographer and owner of DAS Academy, has been a huge supporter of Tess.
Her mother Carol spoke to the Roscommon Herald during a busy week for the family with the nine-year-old playing Marta von Trapp in the Boyle Musical Society production of the Sound of Music.
“Tess has been singing since she could make a sound. This is absolutely her passion. She loves to sing, dance and perform. She has done a few auditions, not too many, as she is still only nine, but she is very mature,” said Carol. Her biggest supporters are hew parents Padraig and Carol and her siblings Séanna (13) and Jason (11).
“This just phenomenal. This is a huge confidence boost for her. She has heard it on the radio, and she was very excited the first time she did. It is a fantastic achievement.
“We hope she continues with the academy and builds on her acting and drama. Her school is highly supportive of her. Her principal and teacher Anne Moriarty is a real promoter of drama, art and music in the school. She has great support there and they run Christmas concerts and there is always opportunities to be creative,” her proud mother noted.
