The total number of candidates to formally declare for Fianna Fáil’s Roscommon-Galway selection convention next week is set to become clearer today, Thursday.

Senator Eugene Murphy and Dr. Martin Daly have already confirmed their intention to contest the convention for a place on the party’s General Election ticket.

Another three people who have been nominated by party members have to decide whether they will formally put their name forward for the convention taking place next Thursday, October 3rd in the Abbey Hotel.

The deadline for nominations was on Tuesday, and it’s expected that the official list of names to seek a nomination will become clearer today.

It’s understood that the National Constituencies Committee (NCC), comprising representatives from Fianna Fáil headquarters, will meet shortly to decide on whether to select one or two candidates on the night.

It’s expected that voting by members will take place first at convention before the rest of the proceedings get underway at 8 p.m..
