Racing returns to Roscommon Racecourse today Monday, May 18th with the first race off at 4.50 p.m..
“Our track is in great shape,” said racecourse manager Michael Finneran. “The last few weeks of dry weather has helped us hugely – especially after a very wet spell of weather during the winter. Our ground staff are the best around and they have worked tirelessly ensuring that we have the best possible racing surface.
“With the Roscommon footballers doing so well we have lots to look forward to and we'll enjoy following them throughout the upcoming All-Ireland series. Their performances have given everyone a real lift, and it is great to see them doing so well.
“We would often see plenty of well-known GAA faces here at Roscommon and we see ourselves as a focal point in terms of social activity and it is great to see so many people meeting up here,” said Mr Finneran.
“We are expecting to see good racing here and thanks to our sponsors who include the European Breeders Fund, Friends of the late Michael Tiger Lyons, Connolly’s Red Mills and the Abbey Hotel.
“All the top flat yards will be represented here, and it is great to see last year’s champion apprentice Dylan Browne McMonangle back riding winners. He fractured some vertebra a couple of months ago in Hong Kong.
“Dylan fought out a great battle with Colin Keane last year and this year both Billy Lee and Joey Sheridan have enjoyed a great start to the campaign and all four riders will be in action here.
“Our Best Turned Out prizes are sponsored by Hamrock’s Bar, Athleague,” said Mr Finneran.
