Train delayed after striking tree close to level crossing

The Westport to Dublin train was delayed this morning after hitting a tree close to a South Roscommon level crossing.

A spokesperson for Irish Rail confirmed that the 05:15 from Westport struck a tree on the approach to the level crossing at Barrymore, Kiltoom.

“The train came to a stop across the level crossing as a result. The driver examined the train and it was safe to continue at a reduced speed,” she said. “The road would have been blocked for a short period of the time and the train was an hour late arriving into Heuston.”
