Heavy snow in parts of West Roscommon tonight Monday, has left many roads in a treacherous condition.

Treacherous road conditions are being reported this evening in many parts of West Roscommon as heavy snow continues to fall.

There was heavy snowfall earlier today in Castlerea, Ballinlough, Ballaghaderreen and many of the surrounding areas. For the past few hours snow has continued to fall in these areas again leaving road conditions treacherous.

Drifting snow has been reported tonight in Ballinlough and Castlerea.

Due to dangerous road conditions, St. Nathy’s College in Ballaghaderreen has announced that it will close tomorrow, Tuesday January 7th. “The safety of our students and staff is our top priority and we urge everyone to take extra care if travelling,” said the school. Also in the  Ballaghaderreen area St. Attracta's NS, Lisacul NS and Loughglynn NS have announced that they will be closed tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Met Eireann is reporting that wintry showers will bring further accumulation of snow across parts of County Roscommon with potential impacts including hazardous travel conditions, poor visibility, travel disruption. The warning is valid until 12 noon tomorrow.
