Tributes paid following passing of 1951 All-Ireland minor football winner

Tributes have been paid following the death of Harry Connolly, who won an All-Ireland minor football medal with Roscommon in 1951.

Mr Connolly, Church Hill, Castlerea, Co. Roscommon, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family in the excellent care of the staff at the Roscommon Hospice.

A former club player with Castlerea St. Kevin’s, he won a senior championship medal in 1967.

Mr Connolly also also won a senior medal with United Stars, an amalgamation of Creggs and Oran, and played intercounty football for Laois and Galway.

The Castlerea club led the many tributes following his passing on January 18th.

Predeceased by his beloved wife Celia, Mr Connolly will be sadly missed by his children, Annmarie (Hickey, Galway), Gerry (Sligo), Deirdre (Connolly, Malahide) and Harriet (Sandyford), grandchildren Lisa, Lauren, Aoife, Juliette, Ronan and Rowan, partners Daniel and Jamie, great-grandchildren Grace and Tom, sons-in-law Paul and Liam, daughter-in-law Mary, nieces, nephews, cousin John Deacy, relatives and friends.

Reposing in Gaynor's Funeral Home, The Square, Castlerea on Wednesday evening from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m..

On Thursday, 11 a.m. Funeral Mass will take place at St. Patrick’s Church, Castlerea followed by burial at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
