Tributes have been paid to a County Roscommon man who died, peacefully, at Portiuncula University Hospital on Thursday, July 31st, following a sudden illness.

Thomas (Tom) Moran, Grange, Fourmilehouse (and formerly of Drumlahard, Drumboylan), was actively involved in Community Games in the county for many years.

Roscommon Community Games have expressed “deep condolences to Bridie, Michael, Anne Marie, Ciaran and all the Moran family at this very sad time. Tom was very active and involved in Community Games for many years. He was chairperson at county level for a number of years. He will be very sadly missed as a great friend by all of us. Tom we will miss you and always remember your gentle smile,” said a message of condolence from Roscommon Community Games.

He was also actively involved in the GAA life of the parish and the launch of Kilbride GAA Club’s strategy was postponed as a mark of respect.

The club, in expressing sympathy to his family, said: “Tom’s connection to our community and club was deeply valued, and his passing has left a void felt by many.” 

Described as “a gentleman and a friend to everyone”, he took great interest in the workings of Fourmilehouse parish and contributed greatly to parish life, including the local community centre where he was treasurer.

Kilbride Community and Leisure Centre stated: “It is with great sadness that we at Kilbride Community Centre mourn the passing of our beloved colleague friend and treasurer for the last 28 years. Our thoughts prayers and condolences go out to Bridie, his beloved wife and family.” 

Treasured husband of Bridget (Bridie nee Finnerty), much-loved father of Michael (New York), Ann-Marie (Mullingar) and Ciaran (Grange); father-in-law of Noel Heduan and Benjamin Gillespie; adored grandfather of Edith and Méabh and cherished brother of Charles (Rita) (Templeogue) and Michael (Drumlahard). Pre-deceased by his parents, Charles and Annie-Jane (nee Molloy), and his infant brother, John Joseph.

Tom will be forever loved and greatly missed by his heartbroken wife, children, sons-in-law, grandchildren, brothers, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins, nephews, niece, nephews-in-law, nieces-in-law, relatives, neighbours and many friends.

Tom reposed in Cuan Mhuire Oratory, adjacent to the Fourmilehouse Community Centre this evening, Saturday. Removal from his home in Grange (F42 DK23) on Monday, August 4th, at 11,15 a.m. to St. Brigid's Church, Fourmilehouse (F42 AY92), to arrive for Funeral Mass at 12 noon. Burial afterwards in St Coman’s Cemetery, Roscommon Town, alongside his beloved uncle, and aunt, Joe and Josephine Moran.
