Two men, aged in their 20s, have been arrested following an aggravated burglary in Athlone.

The burglary occurred at a house in St Peter’s Terrace on Thursday, July 2nd at approximately 4 a.m..

Today, Friday, gardaí arrested two adult males (aged in their 20s) in connection with this investigation.

They are being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 in a Garda Station in Co Westmeath.

An adult male (aged in his late teens) and an adult female (aged in her 50s) of the house were conveyed to Portiuncula University Hospital for treatment of injuries believed to be non-life threatening at the time.

A technical examination of the scene was conducted.

Investigations are ongoing.
