Uisce Éireann to upgrade 5km of water mains in West Roscommon

Works are set to commence next month on a major water mains replacement project between Cloonfad and Lowberry Cross in West Roscommon, Uisce Éireann confirmed this afternoon.
The project will involve the installation of more than 5km of new, modern water mains, replacing ageing pipes that have been the cause of frequent bursts and supply disruptions in the area over the past number of years.
Most recently, a burst on Monday highlighted the ongoing challenges posed by the existing infrastructure.
Communities in Meeltraun, Cloonfad village, 100 Acres, Clogher Upper, Derrylahan, Cornabanny, Swinefield, Fiddauns, Gorteenacammadil, Tonlegee (Co. Mayo), Culkeen, Pollanalty, Ballinross, Mountdelvin, Moigh, and surrounding areas will directly benefit from these works as well as customers on the Johnstown/Levalleyroe Group Water Scheme, according to Uisce Éireann.
Welcoming the project, Enda MacNamara, programme manager at Uisce Éireann, said that these upgrades will help stop leakage and give the community in Cloonfad greater confidence in their water supply for years to come.
“We’re delighted to be commencing these important works between Cloonfad and Lowberry Cross next month. This project will replace ageing water mains that have been prone to frequent bursts, helping to significantly improve the reliability and resilience of the local water network. We would like to thank the community in advance for their patience and cooperation while these essential upgrades are carried out.”
The works will be delivered by Farrans Construction and are scheduled for completion by Spring 2027.
As part of the works, lane closures with traffic lights will be in place on sections of the R327 to allow construction to be carried out safely.
