Up to 5,000 customers are experiencing problems with water supply in the Castlerea area, Uisce Éireann has confirmed.
According to the company technical issues at the Longford Springs Water Treatment has resulted in low reservoir levels leaving thousands of customers with no water of low water pressure as a result in Castlerea town, Ballintuber, Castleplunket, Kilmurray and surrounding areas.
Uisce Éireann’s Gerard Healy assured customers that every effort is being made to restore supply to those impacted as quickly and as safely as possible.
“We understand the inconvenience of an unplanned outage and thank customers for their support while crews work to restore supply. We estimate that up to 5,000 customers may be impacted. Works will take place across the day in an effort to have the plant back in full operation as quickly as possible," he said.
Typically, it takes a number of hours following the completion of works before water supply is fully restored to all impacted customers, and it may take longer for customers at the end of the network or on higher ground as the system recharges.
