The 2026 Roscommon Rose of Tralee, a 24-year-old secondary school teacher from Kiltoom in South Roscommon, has been described as “a fantastic role model” for students.
Rebecca Collins, a Home Economics & Religion teacher at Our lady’s Bower Athlone, was chosen by the judges from the 16 contestants competing for the title at a gala event, with main sponsors, the Roscommon Herald, in the Abbey Hotel, Roscommon on Saturday night.
Fresh from playing the role of ‘Sive’ in Kiltoom Drama group’s latest production and winning the midlands senior ladies soccer league this year with Bealnamulla FC, Rebecca told the gathering that one day she dreams of owning her own restaurant. She was sponsored on the night by Hannon’s Hotel, Roscommon.
Following her win Our Lady’s Bower, where Rebecca was also a student, said: “We are so proud of you Ms Collins. Winning this competition is an incredible achievement, and balancing it all alongside teaching, sport, drama and school life with such positivity makes it even more inspiring.
“You are a fantastic role model for our students. Enjoy every moment of the celebrations. We can’t wait to celebrate with you when we’re back in two weeks.”
