The choir members are in Liverpool performing at a series of special events, one of which is at the place of rest of iconic songwriter Percy French, who was born in Clooneyquinn House, near Tulsk, 170 years ago this year.
The Solstice Choir is taking part in Liverpool Irish Festival. The group visited Formby and performed concert of Percy French songs in St Luke's Church of England on Saturday. Later on that evening the choir sang at Mass in Our Lady of Compassion Church, Formby.
Today Sunday, October 27th the choir will attend and sing at the International Famine Walk commemoration ceremony in St Luke's Church in memory of the 1.3m Irish emigrants who arrived in Liverpool during the years of the Irish Famine, and in particular the 1,490 evictees from Strokestown Estate who were put on cargo ships in 1847 to Liverpool and onwards to Canada.
The choir is both delighted and honoured to be part of this prestigious festival and hope to forge links with the many groups and organisations working there on Ireland’s behalf.
Meanwhile, the choir has been busy rehearsing also for a series of Christmas concerts in December 2024. These are: December 6th, Geevagh, County Sligo; December 8th, Kilmurry, County Roscommon; December 13th, Strokestown and December 15th, Boyle. There will be more information on the trip to Liverpool and the Christmas concerts at a later date.
