The new Frenchpark bypass opened today.

The Herald took a spin on the new Frenchpark bypass which was officially opened today, Thursday, by Transport Minister, Darragh O’Brien.

This is the first section of the new N5 road to open.

It bypasses Frenchpark village and Sheepwalk, and is predicted to remove up to 70% of through traffic from Frenchpark.

This 7km stretch is part of 34km of new road being built between the Ballaghaderreen bypass and Scramogue.

When complete, the new N5 route will also bypass Ballinagare, Tulsk and Strokestown.

The Frenchpark bypass officially opened to traffic today, nineteen months ahead of the contract completion date.
