Water woes deepen for hundreds of West Roscommon residents

Hundreds of householders in West Roscommon have woken up this morning, Saturday, to another day of water woes.
The water mains near Loweberry, Granlahan burst again in a different place early this morning, affecting hundreds of customers.
Uisce Éireann had announced earlier in the week essential mains repair works in the area as part of its National Leakage Reduction Programme, works which were to last until today, Saturday.
However, this morning another part of the mains supplying customers in Granlahan, Cloonfad, Lowberry and surrounding areas sprung a leak.
Local Fianna Fáil councillor Paschal Fitzmaurice has expressed his frustration at the on-going issues with the supply in West Roscommon.
Last July Uisce Éireann announced that it was commencing essential upgrade works to replace more than 5km of ageing water mains in the Cloonfad area in a bid to deliver a more reliable water supply for local homes and businesses.
The works, said the company, "will address a series of disruptive bursts that have impacted customers in recent years, helping to restore confidence in the local water supply and support the community into the future".
This morning Cllr Fitzmaurice said "the new pipe line can not come quick enough for this community who have suffered so badly".
Cllr Fitzmaurice also said that bottled water is available today at Cloonfad Church Car Park.
