Weighing scales and cocaine found during drugs patrols in West Roscommon

Following a search of a vehicle in Castlerea a weighing scales and a white powder believed to be cocaine were seized.
Gardaí attached to the Mayo section of the MRL Drugs Unit conducted patrols throughout towns and villages in West Roscommon over the St. Patrick's Bank Holiday weekend. These included, Ballinlough, Cloonfad, Loughglynn, Ballaghaderreen and Castlerea.
The aim of the operation, according to gardaí, was to disrupt those involved in the sale and supply of controlled drugs, particularly cocaine, in and around the social settings of the night time economy.
In one such patrol in the centre of Castlerea, they encountered a vehicle which aroused their suspicions. A search under the Misuse of Drugs Act was conducted resulting in the seizure of a weighing scales and a white powder, believed to be cocaine.
“This powder will be sent for analysis to Forensic Science Ireland and if confirmed as cocaine, due to the quantity and potential street value involved, estimated to be €900, a file will be prepared for the DPP seeking a prosecution for sale and supply of drugs,” said gardaí.
