Work officially begins on county's first athletic track
The track will be Roscommon’s first-ever 8-lane 400 metre, all-weather, running facility, and will be based at Lisnamult Community Sports Park.
Work on the county’s first athletic track has officially begun.
In a post on social media, the group behind the Roscommon Community Athletics Track campaign was delighted to share the exciting news.
The new state-of-the-art 400-metre, eight lane all weather track, together with a full sized community soccer pitch in the infield, is being built at the Lisnamult Community Sports Park.
The committee have a target of raising €1.5 million in funding, for the community facility, and have run a very successful fundraising campaign.
The group said today that the contractor, Kesel Construction Ltd, has officially started work on site.
“This is a massive milestone for our project, and we couldn’t be more excited to see things finally getting underway,” the group said. “Let’s get our track over the line.”
First up, the team will complete the access road to the sports park, followed by digging ducts for electricity lines, and then the groundworks and drainage.
“It’s a fantastic start - but there’s still plenty of work to be done, especially when it comes to fundraising,” the group said. “The incredible support from our community, local businesses, and everyone who bought a ticket for our Lidan Garden Room & Mark Lohan Kitchen Draw has helped us get to this point. We honestly can’t thank you enough. But we need your help to keep the momentum going.”
