Works hope to start this year on long awaited Roscommon Town road project

The 75055 is very popular with walkers.

Works on the long awaited path from Hannon’s Hotel to the Golf Links Road are scheduled to begin late this year.

At yesterday’s meeting of the Roscommon Municipal District, Cllr Marty McDermott asked for an update on the project.

“This is an issue that has been going on a number of years,” he said, saying it needed to be resolved for safety reasons. “People like to walk along there and it is the number one thing that is mentioned. It was the single most important issue in Roscommon Town during the 2019 and 2025 elections.” Cllr Nigel Dineen said that this was an issue stretching back to 2014, highlighting the work of former councillors Orla Leyden and Kathleen Shanagher.

MD Co-ordinator Tom Mc Dermott said that the active travel team had almost completed its detailed design for the project, and it was due to go to tender between April and June. It is hoped that construction could start in the final three months of this year.

Cllr McDermott thanked the council for the update, “This is something that the people of Roscommon deserve”.
