Zoe Cryan challenge continues

Zoe and Ed.

After 14 marathons in seven days and thousands of euro raised for a brilliant little girl, Ed Payne is moving on to Plan B.

Yesterday, Ed, who is a renowned endurance athlete, felt his Achilles tendon begin to act up and cause pain. Unfortunately this meant he could not continue to run, but the Tulsk man and his team were not giving up, they are simply changing tack.

“We are not finished yet. Say a prayer for my arse cheeks,” he said on social media from the Grand canal in County Laois, as the camera panned to his trusty bike.

“I have 120km to do today. I am 14 km in and the Achilles feels okay,” he continued. “We told an amazing, amazing little girl that we are going to try to do the best for her, and we are going to go away and do that.” Starting the challenge on Sunday, September 20th, Ed said that he had the best time running last week and “we’re going to do as much as we can.” “Then there is going to be a bloody good party for Zoe in Roscommon, probably near Tulsk next Sunday,” he said.

“Zoe has been 12 years having to adapt, having to make plans,” said Ed. “The main plan is still there, that’s to raise money for the Zoe Cryan Trust, to have fun and go out and meet people. So if you have a bike in the garage, there’s going to be a new schedule.

Zoe, who turned 12 on Saturday, has a diagnosis of cerebral palsy, and faces a number of significant health challenges. She and her family are hoping to travel to the US to see a specialist surgeon to explore the possibility of jaw realignment surgery, with the hope of improving her speech, oral function and ability to eat. This surgery could cost thousands of euro, which Ed is hoping to help raise.
