St. Coman’s handball duo, Danny O’Shaugnessy and Martin Conroy were crowned All-Ireland Golden Masters B Doubles champions on June 1st in Crinkle, County Offaly.

They faced the highly-fancied Tipperary pairing of Brendan Rogers and Chris Carey in the decider.

O’Shaughnessy and Conroy won the toss and surged 5-1 ahead. But Tipperary took control, and some strong play yielded a 13-6 lead. They eventually won the game 21-7.

Two aces at the start of the second game suggested that Roscommon meant business, but when Rogers and Carey went 14-2 ahead, it was theirs to lose.

But Roscommon’s representatives rallied, and the St. Coman’s pair, thanks to good serving, restored parity at 14-14. It went to 17-17 before O’Shaughnessy and Conroy edged a tight game 21-18.

In the subsequent tie-breaker, Roscommon’s new lease of life was confirmed as they prevailed 11-1 to be crowned All-Ireland champions.
