County Roscommon girl strikes swimming gold

Aicha Clifford has been making waves in the pool, winning an impressive array of medals recently.
A young County Roscommon girl struck gold at the 2025 Irish Age Group Championships in Limerick recently.
Aicha Clifford claimed the top prize in the 1500 metres freestyle, adding to her burgeoning swimming reputation.
In May, the 13-year-old from the Aughrim/Kilmore parish claimed gold in the 800 and 1500 metres freestyle alongside bronze medals in the 400 metres freestyle and 100 metres backstroke at the Connacht/Leinster Championships, which were also held in Limerick.
Aicha, who is looking forward to Second Year in Carrick Community School, is also part of the Swim Ireland Regional Development Programme for the 2024/2025 season under the watchful eye of Connacht Regional Development coach, Helen Gunning.
Aicha’s selection for the programme reflects her hard work and dedication to swimming in recent years.
She is currently a member of Longford Swimming Club where she trains six times per week. Her coaches Ronan McNevin, Barry Hall and Gerard Quinn have been hugely impressed by Aicha’s commitment to the sport.
Aicha previously swam for Carrick Fins where she was coached by Fiona Monaghan and Clare Breheny.
