Famous County Roscommon sisters Lisa and Aoife O’Rourke are swapping the boxing ring (in the former’s case, the Gaelic football field as well) for the new craze of Hyrox this week as they compete in the sport’s World Championships in Chicago.

Lisa and Aoife are scheduled to compete in the individual and double events — the individual commencing on Friday (tomorrow) — while Lisa will also compete in the relay.

Their times at events in Europe over the past year have enabled the Castlerea duo to compete at the championships for the first time.

Lisa's involvement in the championships means that she will miss the Roscommon intermediate ladies' crunch championship game against Fermanagh on Sunday, having come on as a substitute against Laois a few weeks ago.

Hyrox is an indoor fitness competition that combines eight kilometres of running and eight functional workout stations, alternating between running and functional exercises.

Both women will also hope to be part of the Irish team for World Boxing’s inaugural Elite World Championships in Liverpool between September 4th and 14th, having won silver medals at the IBA World Championship in Serbia last March.
