Ballaghaderreen GAA legend, Noel Durkin, welcomed some special visitors earlier this week.
Mayo manager, Andy Moran, alongside Ballaghaderreen player David McBrien and Kuba Callaghan, visited Durkin with the Sam Maguire Cup.
Ballaghaderreen GAA Club described Durkin as a “true Ballagh and Mayo football legend”, winning an All-Ireland U-21 title with a Mayo team managed by the late John O’Mahony in 1983.
He also played in the 1989 All-Ireland senior final against Cork, where O’Mahony was once again the Mayo manager. Durkin's outstanding performances earned him an All-Star award that year.
As the memories from Mayo’s famous All-Ireland final victory in July still linger, Ballaghaderreen GAA Club described the moment as “a special Ballagh club photo” as the past collided with the present.
