Two County Roscommon natives have stepped down from a Sligo club’s management team.

Manager Shane King and coach Patrick McTiernan have departed Shamrock Gaels after a successful stint at the helm.

Having joined Glen McDermott’s management team in 2022 as coach, Corrigeenroe native King took over as manager in 2024 before guiding the Gaels to an historic Division One League and Championship double in 2025 following a 33-year wait for the Owen B. Hunt Cup.

Shamrock Gaels also reached this year’s decider where they were defeated by St. Mary’s who will now play Roscommon champions, St. Brigid’s, in the Connacht quarter-final in early November.

“During his time, Shane gave everything he had to the cause and has provided us with unforgettable memories along the way. In creating such a legacy, Shane leaves with our sincere gratitude and we wish him the very best for the future,” said Shamrock Gaels in a statement.

The club also went on to confirm that St. Ronan’s clubman Patrick McTiernan had stepped down as selector after five years involvement with the senior team.

“We want to thank and acknowledge Pat’s contribution and the experience and enthusiasm he brought to the job. It has been a genuine pleasure to deal with both Shane and Pat during their tenure,” concluded the Shamrock Gaels statement.
