Wicklow 1-10

Roscommon maintained their unbeaten start to this year’s Division 3A campaign as a late scoring surge saw them overcome Wicklow.

Roscommon only led this game by two points, 2-8 to 1-9 after 57 minutes but late goals from Deborah Finneran and Sarah Dooley saw Mary Grehan’s side secure another impressive result.

The opening half laid the foundation as Roscommon managed to hold firm against the breeze. The home side enjoyed the perfect start when Dooley netted but Wicklow began to pin their foes back, scoring 1-4 without reply.

Elizabeth Bourke bagged the goal, but Roscommon dropped Oonagh Kelly back as a sweeper to help solidify the defence. A Sophie Bermingham free helped Wicklow lead 1-5 to 1-1 after 26 minutes.

However, Roscommon finished the first half strong as Ciara Kilcommins netted from close range before a Dooley score helped ensured the sides were level at the interval, 2-2 to 1-5.

With Roscommon enjoying wind advantage in the second half, Orla Connolly’s five points in the final half, helped the home side keep their noses in front.

Ciara Connolly ensured Wicklow trailed by just three points, but Finneran and Dooley’s majors ensured Roscommon have two wins and a draw from their opening three games.
