There was a strong Roscommon connection to the Abbeylara side that secured the Longford senior football title.

Former Roscommon and St. Brigid’s footballer Frankie Dolan managed Abbeylara to their first Longford senior crown in 18 years following a replay victory against Colmcille.

Frankie’s brother Garvan is also a part of the management ticket that guided Abbeylara to a first county senior title since 2006.

The newly crowned county champions came through an extra time battle with Colmcille, prevailing 2-10 to 1-7, after the two sides could not be separated last week.

Abbeylara had only ever won two county senior titles prior to this year and had lost four finals since their previous triumph in 2006.

Frankie is no stranger to club football in Longford and played a part in Ballymahon’s historic first senior football championship success back in 2002.

Abbeylara will play Louth’s Ardee St Mary’s next in the Leinster senior football championship.
