The Roscommon intermediate ladies’ football team’s promotion push from Division Three of the Lidl LGFA League received another major boost this afternoon when Ollie Lennon’s side travelled to Fr Kevin Brehony Park in Keash — the home of Eastern Harps GAA Club — and came away with a comfortable 0-17 to 0-8 victory against Sligo.

Trailing by 0-3 to 0-1 at the end of the first quarter, Roscommon turned up the heat before the break, kicking seven points in succession to lead 0-8 to 0-3 at the change of ends.

With Lisa O’Rourke’s workrate a shining example for her side, points from Laura Fleming, Aisling Hanly, Sinead Farrell, Kate Nolan and Aoife Gavin put the visitors very firmly in control.

They duly remained in the box seat after the break, always keeping Sligo at arm’s length.

Aisling Hanly added another five points to her tally, including four frees, while Lauren Shanagher, Laura Fleming, Aoife Gavin and Caoimhe Cregg also found the target.

Roscommon have two home games to come against Wexford and Offaly before travelling to Antrim on the final day of league action.

Alongside Clare, they remain in pole position for a place in the Division Three League final alongside the greater prize of promotion to Division Two.
