One of County Roscommon’s great GAA volunteers was recognised for his years of service with a prestigious award last weekend.
Castlerea St. Kevin’s stalwart Seamie Coyne deservedly received the Hall of Fame award at the club’s celebration dinner dance, which honoured the 2023 Roscommon and Connacht intermediate football champions, in The Hub on Saturday night.
A video link to Galway University Hospital, where Seamie is recovering from a recent operation, enabled the large crowd to witness club members present the popular clubperson with his award.
“Seamie has done so much for the club down through the years. Castlerea St. Kevin’s is his life. He has been the ultimate volunteer,” said Club Chairperson, Tommy Finneran.
“He has been involved with winning teams down through the years. You hear people talking about great managers or what a great job a chairperson or secretary did for club, but Seamie’s contribution to the GAA in Castlerea has trumped all of that.
“I remember, before we did work in the pitch, seeing Seamie out on O’Rourke Park with the grape on many a wet morning. Only for him, some matches would never have been played.
“He’s just so well-liked, a popular and honest sort of fella. Everyone in Castlerea St. Kevin’s wishes him a speedy recovery and we hope to see him around O’Rourke Park again soon,” concluded Mr Finneran.
