Price is right for Pearses to claim county minor football crown

John Price produced a superb individual performance as Pádraig Pearses were crowned Connacht Gold Division One minor football champions in Ballyforan on Friday evening.
The Pearses joint captain — who was Player of the Match for Roscommon when they won the 2025 Connacht minor football final — hit 2-9 as Denis Whyte's side secured a thrilling 2-16 to 2-12 victory against Roscommon Gaels after extra-time.
Price showed his intentions by hitting 1-3 inside the first 13 minutes but, thanks to David King's 14th minute goal, the Gaels were 1-5 to 1-4 ahead at half time.
The contest caught fire in the second half, and when substitute Sam Hannon scored an excellent 49th minute goal, Roscommon Gaels looked destined for the win, leading by 2-11 to 1-8.
But a magnificent individual goal by Price ignited a Pearses comeback, and a couple of late frees from Daniel Goode sent the game to extra time.
Once again, Price was the difference, hitting 0-4, including a two-point free, in the first period of extra time to finally snap the Gaels' resistance and bring championship honours back to Woodmount.
