Roscommon U-20 football captain, Eoghan Carthy, has marked a stellar season in leading his side to provincial glory by being named 2026 Dalata Hotel Group GAA U-20 Connacht Player of the Province.
Selected by a panel of expert GAA journalists from the Gaelic Writers' Association, Carthy was recognised for his outstanding performances, leadership and influence throughout the championship, culminating in a famous 5-16 to 2-22 victory against Mayo in the provincial final at the end of April.
A true “Difference Maker”, he was also selected on the 2026 Dalata Hotel Group GAA U-20 Football Team of the Year.
Connacht's strength was further reflected through the inclusion of Roscommon team-mate Michael Gillooly and Mayo's Kobe McDonald on this year's Team of the Year.
"I’m honoured to receive this award and to represent Roscommon. We have a fantastic group of players and management, and this recognition reflects the commitment, hard work, and dedication shown by everyone throughout the season.
“It has been a privilege to wear the Roscommon jersey and compete alongside such talented team-mates. To see both myself and Michael Gillooly recognised on the Team of the Year is a proud moment for Roscommon football.
“The visit from Chris O’Dowd created a special experience that none of us will ever forget, and it was a nice way to celebrate what has been a memorable season for everyone involved,” said Carthy.
Tyrone's Shea McDermott (Ulster), Kerry's Gearóid White (Munster), and Kildare's Jimmy Lynch (Leinster) won the other Player of the Province awards.
