Roscommon CBS back in All-Ireland final for first time in six years

The Roscommon CBS players can celebrate being back in another All-Ireland final.
Roscommon CBS are back in the All-Ireland Colleges B Football Championship final following a terrific 2-14 to 1-11 victory against St. Peter’s College, Dunboyne, at Abbotstown on Saturday afternoon.
Despite the 11th hour change of venue from Kinnegad and the decision to play the game on a 4G pitch when there were perfectly playable grass pitches available, the CBS players and their management of Noel Moran, Eoghan Coll and Gerry Lohan put those last minute distractions to one side to deservedly get the better of their Meath opponents.
The damage was done in the opening half when CBS’ better team ethic procured a 1-10 to 0-6 interval lead.
Captain Eoghan Carthy was magnificent at centre-back, full-forward Cian Duggan justified his selection with three booming points, and wing-back Colin Murray finished off a great move with an excellent goal in the 29th minute.
Led by the magnificent John Harkin, the Meath school mounted a third quarter comeback and when Harkin’s effort for a point was bundled to the net by James Lonergan in the 39th minute, the gap was down to just three points.
But CBS steadied the ship when they worked the ball the length of the field for Colin Murray to kick a superb score with 11 minutes remaining.
And when substitute Freddie Kelly found the net just a few minutes later, CBS could start turning their attention to another national decider on March 8th.
