A County Roscommon minor footballer has been selected as Electric Ireland Minor Championship Player of the Week.
Sam Hannon deservedly received the award after kicking 0-6, including a couple of two-pointers, during his side’s dramatic 1-19 to 2-15 All-Ireland quarter-final triumph against Louth at Kingspan Breffni on Saturday evening.
The Roscommon Gaels player, who was also part of Roscommon CBS’ successful All-Ireland Colleges’ B team, received over 70 per cent of the vote, seeing off Ben Kelliher (Kerry) and Dara Flanagan (Mayo).
Hannon becomes the second Roscommon player to win the award this season, after John Price from Pádraig Pearses was selected following his Player of the Match performance against Mayo in the Connacht final.
In a post on social media, Electric Ireland said: “Hannon's influential midfield display, with six points, including two two-pointers, was key to edging Louth in an enthralling quarter-final.”
