Roscommon woman wins New York Ladies' Footballer of the Year

Roisin Wynne received the New York Ladies Gaelic Football Player of the Year award for 2024 at a gala reception in New York.

A County Roscommon woman has secured two awards for her ladies' football exploits in America.

Roisín Wynne, who helped Roscommon claim the Division Three League title in 2022, has received the prestigious New York Ladies' Gaelic Football Player of the Year award for 2024.

Daughter of Gary and Ann Wynne, Boyle, Roisín helped her club Na Fianna claim the club's first New York senior football title in six years.

Consequently, she also received the Na Fianna Championship Player of the Year award at a gala reception in New York recently.

Roisín was instrumental in Boyle claiming the county senior ladies' football title for the first time in 2023 as she produced a Player of the Match display. She also helped her club claim the intermediate crown 12 months earlier.

She served as Roscommon’s vice-captain in 2023 after making her debut for the county against Offaly in 2018. Her sister Saoirse lined out at full-back in Roscommon’s opening round league game against Monaghan last Sunday.

Roscommon LGFA stated: “This award is not surprising given Roisin’s commitment, dedication, application and leadership both on and off the field.”
