Roscommon 3-6

Limerick 0-8

Two second half goals in quick succession courtesy of half-time substitute Lauren Shanagher and Caoimhe Lennon helped Roscommon to a win in the league opener.

The opening half in Kiltoom was tentative, with both teams getting to grips with the new rules and each other.

Both sides traded points early on before Rachel Fitzmaurice raised a green flag in the tenth minute, catching Limerick goalkeeper Carol Bateman off her line.

To Bateman’s credit she made two 1-on-1 saves and dealt with a number of shots Roscommon dropped short.

Aisling Hanly tagged on another point shortly after, but Limerick kicked the last four points of the half to draw the level 1-2 to 0-5 at the interval.

Hanly started the second half positively kicking two well-taken points as Lucy O’Brien registered Limerick’s only point from play.

The game was decided in the 47th minute when Caoimhe Lennon and Lauren Shanagher kicked two goals in the space of 30 seconds to put Roscommon in a position they would not look back from.

Rachel Fitzmaurice and Hanly once more kicked Roscommon’s last two points as Finbar Egan’s charges start their league campaign with a win.
