The Roscommon intermediate ladies' football team have made a flying start to this year's Lidl Division Three League campaign after an impressive 0-11 to 0-4 victory against Down at a wet and windy Woodmount this afternoon.
With wind advantage in the opening half, Ollie Lennon's side made the most of the elements to lead 0-7 to 0-1 at half time, and they kept their opponents at arm's length in the second half to run out comfortable winners.
Three points from Aisling Feely were among the first-half highlights, while her team-mate from county champions Boyle, Caoimhe Cregg, added a score from wing-back.
Aisling Hanly and Lauren Shanagher also split the posts, while Laura Fleming added a free to leave the Rossies very much in the driving seat at the break.
Try as they might, Down couldn't get back into the contest and Roscommon sealed the deal comfortably with two frees from Fleming, another from Lauren Shanagher and a point from play by Player of the Match, Caoimhe Cregg, to get their league campaign off to a positive start.
It was also a memorable afternoon for Sinead Farrell (Clann na nGael), Shauna Fleming (Michael Glaveys) and Shannon Kerins (Boyle) who made their senior debuts.
