The people of Castlerea and its environs have been urged to unleash the Olympic spirit around the town to honour one of their own.

Aoife O’Rourke appearance’s at her second Olympic Games in Paris at the end of the month has generated a huge buzz in the West Roscommon town, and locals are now being encouraged to demonstrate their spirit and pride on the world stage to recognise her achievement.

A GoFundMe page has been set up in the hope of purchasing decorations, including bunting, banners, posters, and other signage that will fill the streets with Olympic pride and leave Aoife in no doubt that the town is right behind her in the French capital when the Games get underway on Friday week.

Organisers have highlighted that Aoife has trained tirelessly, showing remarkable dedication, strength, and resilience.

“Her journey is not just her own but one that inspires us all,” they said.

Consequently, they are calling on friends, neighbours and local businesses to create a festive and supportive atmosphere and turn Castlerea into an Olympic village, which will reflect the pride they have in County Roscommon’s latest Olympian.
