Mother and daughter combinations fuel Roscommon club’s championship ambitions

It was very much a case of “family ties” for one County Roscommon club over the weekend as the Kilbride junior and intermediate ladies' football teams featured two mother and daughter combinations.

On Saturday evening, Anne Marie Dennigan and her daughter Ruth lined out for the Kilbride junior ladies’ footballers during their 6-6 to 1-8 victory against St. Dominic’s.

Anne Marie is still going strong after winning an All-Ireland medal with the Roscommon junior ladies’ football team in 2001.

The same Kilbride junior football team featured Sandra Shanagher, well-known Roscommon LGFA official and referee.

Sandra saved a penalty against St. Dominic’s and watched with pride on Sunday as the Kilbride intermediate ladies’ footballers — featuring her daughter Aisling who was team captain — shared the spoils against Michael Glaveys, 2-7 to 1-10, in the championship.

A proud moment for both families and Kilbride GAA and LGFA clubs alike.
